New Movable Altar

Client: Old Saint Patrick Church
Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan

Daniel DeGreve was approached by a prominent parishioner of Old Saint Patrick Church in Ann Arbor in 2012 with a commission to design a new freestanding altar that could be easily moved into the adjoining sacristy to allow for the daily celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass at the high altar. Although the former freestanding altar had been designed to resemble a table with four legs, Daniel designed the new altar to complement the Gothic Revival motifs of the high altar.

The new painted wood freestanding altar has four vertical faces with a recessed Christogram panel facing towards the congregation, four engaged corner columns, and a carved band above the columns featuring a vine motif. The altar is used for the celebration of the Mass in the Ordinary Form and for the Exposition of and Benediction with the Blessed Sacrament.
